This year, Bruce and Dorothy Prasser drove their Hillman to the rally with Geoff and Sylvia Heath on board as ‘crew’. Geoff suggested that Bruce should carry out some improvements to his Hillman i.e. air con, CD, GPS, blue tooth and electric windows but Bruce did not respond. Not sure if we will be invited to be ‘crew’ again next year??
This annual rally day started at 7.30am at the Ormiston school oval. The organization of the marshals was very good and we were quickly and efficiently directed to our parking spot. At the entrance, we were also given a show bag of goodies including an Australian flag. The breakfast provided was also very well organized and we found ourselves dining on sausage, bacon and onion rolls plus a cuppa in no time at all. After a hearty breakfast, there were hundreds of vintage, veteran, historic and classic cars for any enthusiast to drool over.
Around 9:30 am the rally left on one of three routes through Redland City. Our group, (four Hillmans, one Humber Vogue and one Alpine) chose Route 3 which took us through some lovely suburbs in Wellington Point and Birkdale. We continued to a very shady park at Wynnum where we all enjoyed morning tea. Dorothy had a ‘Flo’ moment and produced pumpkin scones that she had baked early in the morning before leaving Ipswich. The convivial atmosphere was once again a great reminder as to why these rally days are so memorable.
Although the majority of enthusiasts went to the Alexandra Hills Hotel for lunch, our club members chose the Moreton Bay Trailer Boat Club for a quieter and friendlier atmosphere. A very pleasant day was had by all!
